Black bookcover with microscopic images including snowflake, blood cell, water fleas: The Miniverse - discover an astonishing world under the microscope

Contributing to The Miniverse

The human body is covered in 2-4 million sweat pores. Dragonfly wings are covered in tiny spikes, invisible to the naked eye, that help prevent bacterial growth. At the base of each eyelash is a microscopic community of mites that feed on your dead skin cells and skin oils. These are just some of the wonderful topics I got to cover with my latest project for DK – Miniverse.

Published in May this year, the book takes a close look at both the natural world and human-made objects to reveal structures unseen, detail unnoticed and critters we probably would prefer to not know are there!

I love these DK projects as it is always an opportunity to learn new things, but also temporarily tap into my 9-year-old self and think about the facts that would have captured my imagination. The general rule of thumb is that the more disgusting the fact the better.
